Contributor Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in BAI Banking Strategies, a premier national publication that reaches 32,000 executives in banking and financial services. As part of our editorial mission to explore strategic and managerial issues, we seek the highest quality articles from contributing writers. Here are some guidelines and procedures for submitting articles:

Content - BAI Banking Strategies contains issues-oriented and strategically focused articles aimed at providing actionable research and analysis for senior-level executives, as opposed to tactical content for line employees. We require high levels of objectivity and expertise. We do not accept articles that tout specific products, services or engagements. We encourage authors to take a strong stance on issues but require that arguments be well substantiated. We are looking for material that will be exclusive to our publication. If you are shopping your proposal elsewhere or if it has already been published, please inform us ahead of time. And keep in mind that we can accept only work for which we receive assignment of all rights, including copyright.

Submissions - We often receive and review unsolicited manuscripts. However, we prefer that prospective contributors first send a one-page abstract or synopsis. Lay out the main thrust of the proposed story and summarize the supporting analysis, information and research. We look for four key elements in any BAI Banking Strategies article: 1) a clear statement of the issue, 2) a substantiated discussion of what is at stake, 3) a stance on what should be done or what is likely to happen, and 4) a discussion of the strategic, managerial and financial implications of the actions the author advocates or the changes that he or she foresees.

We will screen these story proposals, following up on those that meet our content requirements and standards. The best way to understand the magazine's editorial approach is to view past articles.

Editing - Once an article has been accepted for publication, editors and author(s) begin a collaborative editing process. Manuscripts may undergo several revisions as they pass back and forth between the two parties. No article is published unless both writer(s) and editors are satisfied with the final manuscript. We reserve the right to make changes deemed necessary to adapt an article for publication in the magazine, including stylistic changes and rigorous fact-checking of content.

Compensation - Contributing writers are not compensated financially, although they receive wide exposure for their work. Including pass-along readership, BAI Banking Strategies reaches more than 32,000 executives nationally and additional issues are distributed to thousands attendees at some of the most prestigious events in the industry—including BAI Retail Delivery Conference & Expo.

Publication - As a courtesy, contributing writers are mailed a few copies of the magazine when it is published upon their request. Bulk orders, however, must be handled through our reprint service.

For more information, please send an e-mail to BankingStrategies@bai.org. We look forward to working with you.
