Innovation Circle Judges

The Innovation Circle is a select panel of distinguished judges and advisors from around the world, who are at the forefront of innovation. Together, they will identify potential Award nominees, review applications and finally, select the category finalists and winners. The Innovation Circle regards all applications, finalists and award winners with respect and confidentiality.

Debbie leads the BAI team in providing financial services leaders with the powerful tools, meaningful connections, and relevant content that power smart business decisions.

Debbie has been in financial services for more than 30 years, and has held senior positions with several major financial services companies, including Wells Fargo and Dean Witter Discover. With more than 20 years at BAI, Debbie is a frequent speaker at industry events, and has authored numerous books and articles on financial services topics.

Sue Britton is CEO and Founder of a company called FinTech Growth Syndicate (FGS) that she started after a 25-year corporate career. FGS is as a business accelerator that provides fuel to start-ups to accelerate their sales, partnering and marketing strategies; and helps to amplify innovation programs for financial institutions making innovation work inside and outside the organization. Sue has spent her career in financial technology and financial services. Prior to starting FGS, Sue was Head of Global Innovation for Finastra, leading innovation for the organization across their 8,000 banking clients.

Before that, as Senior Vice President and General Manager at Broadridge, Sue and her team invented and launched award winning wealth management solutions in Canada, that grew to $40 million in revenue in 24 months, and led to changes in regulations in Canada with the CSA. Sue has held a variety of senior roles in innovation at Broadridge Financial, Pareto, Symcor, Xerox and Four Seasons.

Sue is a thought leader and community builder, speaks at numerous events, and holds many volunteer advisory roles in the FinTech community to help drive global awareness and collaboration in Canada around innovation in FinTech.

Her personal commitment to two nonprofit boards reflects her passion outside the company to support mental health for children, and innovation in education. Sue is on the boards of PCMH (Parents for Children’s Mental Health) and Curriculum Services Canada. Sue has a Bachelor of Commerce from Ryerson University.

Amy is a graduate of The Wharton School and Wesleyan University. She established and sponsors an annual social impact fellowship at the NYU Stern Graduate School of Business, benefitting students, not-for-profits and government agencies in the New York City metro community for over a decade.

He is also on the Advisory Board of Cell Trust an innovator in secure mobile messaging and an adjunct professor for Digital Marketing at Georgetown School of Continuing Studies. Alex is a recognized innovator and thought leader within the banking and financial services industry having delivered keynotes and participated on panels and many of the industry’s leading conferences and events around the world. 

Jennifer Tescher Center for Financial Services InnovationJennifer Tescher, President & Chief Executive Officer, Center for Financial Services Innovation (CFSI)

Jennifer Tescher is the President and CEO of the Center for Financial Services Innovation (CFSI), the nation’s authority on consumer financial health. CFSI leads a network of financial services innovators committed to promoting high-quality financial products. Through its Compass Principles and a lineup of proprietary research, insights and events, CFSI connects members of its network to build a more robust financial services marketplace.

Jennifer founded CFSI in 2004 and has since achieved notable success in championing increased access to high-quality financial products and services for underserved consumers as an objective for the industry. She has become a nationally known expert on this topic, frequently quoted in national and financial press including The New York Times, NPR’s Marketplace, and Washington Post, with major speaking engagements at a broad spectrum of industry and policy convenings. She is also currently an advisory council member of Accion’s Center for Financial Inclusion.

Jennifer launched CFSI’s annual conference, newly titled “Emerge: Consumer Financial Health Forum,” which presents cutting-edge thought leadership and showcases innovators, executives, and emerging companies in the financial services industries.

Guillermo Tolosa BAI Global Innovation JudgeGuillermo Tolosa, CIO, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Argentina)

Guillermo Tolosa has an IT degree in CAECE University of Argentina and is currently CIO and member of the Excecutive Committee at ICBC Argentina, the biggest overseas subsidiary of the largest bank in the world.

He leads, jointly with his colleagues and the customers, the bank transformation process that is resulting in a more mobile, smart, open, data-driven, robust and customer-centric bank. Technologies such as mobile facial recognition, big data, machine learning, chatbot, APIs, among others, support the innovative services provided to ICBC Argentina customers, delivered with a Design Thinking approach.

One of the Guillermo's main contribution to the bank's transformation has been the creation and development of the UX Designers & Researchers team, the Data Scientists team, and the Open Banking team inside IT.

Previously he worked 14 years at Accenture helping to execute transformational projects at many leading financial institutions from Argentina, Israel and Chile.

Representing Europe:

R.CamposRicardo Campos, Member of the Management Board, Activo Bank (Portugal)

Ricardo Campos is a member of the executive board of Portugal’s Activo Bank, and oversees their digital efforts.

Prior to joining Activo Bank, Ricardo was responsible for making Bank Millennium one of the most innovative and successful digital banks in Poland and a world reference in this area.

He has also served as a member of the supervisory board of the Polish Payments System, a joint venture of the six leading banks in Poland who have joined to create an innovative mobile payments system.

Ricardo was also the CEO of Goodie (www.goodie.pl), a startup within Bank Millennium Group in Poland that he helped create. Goodie is focused on developing a business platform for individuals and merchants (discounts, shopping, restaurants, etc.) using innovative technologies such as Azure cloud-based solutions from Microsoft, artificial intelligence, chatbots, beacons, geo-locations and digital imagery recognition.

Conny Dorrestijn BAI Global Innovation Awards JudgeConny Dorrestijn, Founding Partner, BankiFi

Listed on the Global 50 most Influential Women in Fintech, Conny Dorrestijn is a Founding Partner of BankiFi and has worked in the international financial technology industry in a wide range of marketing and business development roles (Nixdorf, ACT, Clear2Pay, FIS) while at the same time developing study trips, projects and concepts around fintech and innovation.

Speaking frequently at international events such as BAI, EBA and Money2020, she is an Advisory Board Member to Holland FinTech and AdviceRobo, Associate of the Digital Insurance Agenda (DIA) and a Global Innovation Awards Judge at BAI. 

As Financial Services Associate Partner at the European Centre for the Experience and Transformation Economies she contributed to the recently published book Economy of Experiences. Her passion for generation Y and Z is translated in her voluntary work as Financial Literacy Advisory Committee Member for the Global Give Back Circle in Kenya www.globalgivebackcircle.org, where she is also active as a mentor for Kenyan pupils and students.

As the Head of Group Marketing and Customer Experience at Emirates NBD, Vikram Krishna has the mandate to further grow the bank’s dominant market position.

Drawing on his two decades of banking experience with global leaders such as Citi and HSBC, Krishna has played a crucial role in successfully launching the Emirates NBD brand post the merger of Emirates Bank and National Bank of Dubai in 2007.

Krishna drove the bank’s Retail Assets division to greater heights when he joined the bank in 2007 to head the division, and later handpicked to lead the marketing and customer experience function three years later.

Having successfully created a leading brand in the wider Middle East region, Krishna has won several industry accolades along the way, including but not limited to, “The Marketer of the Year” at the prestigious Effie MENA Awards 2013, and “The Marketing Department of the Year” at Stevies® in 2011. 

Krishna was also listed in Communicate magazine’s Top 50 Power List for 2011 and 2012, further establishing his position as a thought leader in the UAE’s marketing and customer experience industry.

Paul helps create an entrepreneurial mindset in organizations looking to deliver continuous innovations that customers love and are willing to pay for. Paul lead the innovation programme at First National Bank when FNB was crowned the BAI Most Innovative Bank of the Year in 2012. More recently, he has helped Standard Bank build their innovation capability. Paul has 20 years of organizational design and development experience, holds a MBA (Innovation Management) from Henely Business School, and Honours in Organizational Psychology. 

He is founder of I am Jack Frost (www.iamjackfrost.co). 

Representing Asia-Pacific (APAC):  

Sandeep_Deobhakta_noBorderSandeep Deobhakta, Retail Banking Head, VP Bank 

Sandeep heads the retail banking business at VP Bank. The bank is Vietnam’s most profitable and fastest growing joint stock retail bank. At VP Bank, his most important innovation program is building Dream, a completely new and unique, banking proposition that is designed to help customers fulfill their dreams. 

Sandeep has over 25 years of banking experience in nine countries. He started his banking career with Citibank. His approach to innovation is customer-led and deeply influenced by the thinking of former Citi CEO John Reed, whose vision for Citi’s consumer bank stated, "It should be clear that we must start with the consumer, with the family unit and with it's needs for financial services." He was part of the leadership team that built Shinsei Bank, Japan’s award-winning retail bank, between 2003 and 2010.

Sandeep is a keen commentator on Asian financial services and speaks and writes about the TECS (#TECSTHENEWLEADERS) led disruption of financial services in Asia. Sandeep believes that financial services must transform faster and work harder to improve products and services for customers. He believes that digital is a huge enabler for building SIMPLER, BETTER and FASTER banking products and services. 

Sandeep is a Sloan Fellow and has an MBA from MIT [Massachusetts Institute of Technology], Sloan School of Management. 

Adrian Li_BW_CircleAdrian Li, Executive Director & Deputy Chief Executive, The Bank of East Asia

Adrian Li is Executive Director & Deputy Chief Executive of The Bank of East Asia (BEA) and is responsible for the group’s business in its home market of Hong Kong. BEA is Hong Kong’s largest independent local bank, and operates one of the most extensive networks among foreign banks in mainland China, where it has had an operational presence since 1920.

Mr. Li joined BEA in 2000 as head of corporate banking. He was promoted to deputy chief executive in 2009, and was appointed executive director in 2014. During his tenure, he has driven an evolution of the bank’s business model, prioritizing the use of technology to improve service, convenience and efficiency and thereby enhance the customer experience. He is pursuing a fundamental overhaul of the role of the branch, and has led the internal development of key innovations, including the bank’s award-winning i-Teller and digital branch. He believes that innovation enables us to turn the challenges of today into the opportunities of tomorrow.

Mr. Li holds a Master of Management degree from Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University in the US, and Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Law from the University of Cambridge in Britain. He is a member of The Law Society of England and Wales, and The Law Society of Hong Kong.

Steve Monaghan is Chairman and CEO of GenLife, a Limited Partner and investment committee member in True Global Ventures, Vice Chairman of Borderless Healthcare Mobile China, Vice Chairman of the HK Israel Trade Association, a Board Member of Pulse Global and a private investor in Artificial Intelligence, Life Sciences, Healthtech, Fintech and ICO's.

Originally a commercial pilot, Steve has held senior corporate and banking roles in product, marketing, operations, innovation and general management. He has worked for leading corporations and financial institutions including Dell, Compaq, Citigroup, OCBC, Shinsei, DBS Bank and AIA. Throughout his career, Steve has specialized in introducing new business models, businesses and products in all major markets in Asia and has filed 6 patents in FinTech.

Steve was on the start-up team for Dell Computer, introducing Dell’s consumer business to Asia. Later he developed and executed the branded manufacturing and retail model catapulting Compaq to number one in the Indian consumer market. In banking Steve developed and patented the first mobile payments platform for Citigroup, developed a Consumer Finance Division for OCBC and led the retail bank turnaround of Shinsei Bank in Japan growing revenues USD$500M, deposits 25% and improving net income by USD$100M during a nine-month transformation. As Chief Innovation Officer for DBS Bank, Steve drove the innovation agenda focused on Intelligence, Big Data and Social culminating in the $220+M investment of DBS in IBM Watson, DBS A*Star R&D Lab and Digital Banking.

At AIA Steve and the Edge team built Asia and Oceania's leading corporate Accelerator, became the first Insurance company to join R3 blockchain consortium, pioneered Digital Health in Asia and initiated the company's journey into Artificial Intelligence. Steve created Gen.Life, a Silicon Valley based start-up in which AIA became the lead investor, to create an R&D capability for Insurers around the world in Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain.

Steve is a frequent presenter, author and lecturer around the world on subjects including innovation, banking, insurance, working capital, M&A, artificial intelligence and investing. He has served as an advisor to Intel, Astri, AIA and Veritas Genetics. Steve holds an EMBA with ‘first in class academic standing’ from the Helsinki School of Economics and has attended senior leadership courses at IMD and Wharton.
